Mariagiulia Grassilli

Festival director of Human Rights Nights, Italy (2001-2020) and founding member of the Human Rights Film Network – a global network for human rights festivals - she has been curating festivals and film productions for raising awareness on human rights, and promote social change and justice. She has over 15 years engaged as a professional at global and local level in advocacy and campaigning for equality, diversity and justice with several INGOs, NGOs, arts, social and cultural institutions. Among the collaborations Biennale di Venezia, Cineteca di Bologna, Good Pitch, Oxfam GB. After awarded PhDs in Migration Studies (2002) and in Film Studies (2024) she is now Research Associate at Sussex University, School of Global Studies and Visiting Research Fellow at University of East Anglia, In Film TV and Media. Her research in Cinema and Visual Anthropology focuses on cinema as resistance, migrant and refugee cinema, Film archive of the Global South.
