Anhar Award

The ANHAR award aims to support exceptional films that engage with human rights issues within the MENA region. Using Cinema as a tool to investigate, advocate, and support our core issues within the region. The first international Anhar award was launched at the Nuremberg International Human Rights Festival in Germany on the 3rd of October, 2017. Moroccan director Hicham Lasri won the first award for his film "Head Kick". In the following cycle of 2018, Palestinian director, Raed Andoni, won the award for his movie “Catching Ghosts”. While, in 2019, The Tunisian Director, Fatma Riahi won the award for her film “Haunted Past” . Lastly, In 2020, Palestinian Director Ameen Nayfeh won the award for his film “200 meters”.

The 5th Anhar award will be presented at the 12th edition of Karama Human Rights Film Festival on International Human Rights Day, 2021. The nominees are suggestions submitted by Anhar country members, and a on-bias jury will then select the winning film from the nominated list. The Winner receives an award along with a symbolic sum of money intended to support the distribution and promotion of their films.

  • Nomination by “ANHAR” Palestine: The Stranger, directed by Ameer Fakhr Eldin
  • Nomination by “ANHAR” Egypt: Feathers, directed by Omar El Zohairy
  • Nomination by “ANHAR” Morocco: Melody Morphine, directed by Hicham Amal
  • Nomination by “ANHAR” Tunisia: Trapped, directed by Manal Khaled
