Arab Human Rights Film Network

he Arab Network for Human Rights Films (ANHR Films) was initiated in 2011 within a strategy to promote Human Rights through films in the Arab Region. Initiated by Ma3mal 612, the Network aims at establishing a number of festivals and spaces for screening Human Rights films in the region, in collaboration with a number of organizations and individuals who intersect with Karama’s vision and goals. The Arab Network for Human Rights Films (ANHR Films) paired up and co-founded regional initiatives and festivals in the Arab region.

The Arab Network for Human Rights Films (ANHR Films) was initiated in 2011 within a strategy to promote Human Rights through films in the Arab Region. Initiated by Ma3mal 612, the Network aims at establishing a number of festivals and spaces for screening Human Rights films in the region, in collaboration with a number of organizations and individuals who intersect with Karama’s vision and goals. The Arab Network for Human Rights Films (ANHR Films) paired up and co-founded regional initiatives and festivals in the Arab region.

 

In September 2012, Karama formed alliance with ‘Tripoli Human Rights Film Festival’ in Libya and formulated and delivered the “Karama Package” project. The “Karama Package” was launched at the ‘Edinburgh Summer Festival’ where selected documentary-films from the Arab Region were screened under the banner for Karama.

Further, in September 2013, Karama HRFF established a partnership agreement with ‘Human Screen Festival’ in Tunisia, and presented under this partnership, a selection of Human Rights films from Jordan and the Arab region; Karama team representatives were present in screenings both in Tunis City and other governorates. In parallel, Karama and Ma3mal 612 initiated two sister-festivals stemmed from the same strategy: the ‘Karama Human Rights Film Festival- Palestine’, organized by ‘Ishtar Theatre’ and supervised and directed by Karama-Jordan, the Festival launches its first edition between the 14th and the 19th of Dec, 2013; and the ‘Karama International Human Rights Film Festival-Mauritania’ which will be launched by March 2014, in Nouakchott.

In Dec 2014, and during the main festival, Karama HRFF reached its essential aim by of regional outreach by organizing the “Cinema Without Borders” workshop program, which was organized by Karama HRFF5, in partnership with “Movies that Matter” under the umbrella of Amnesty international, in order to train these participants on how to mount human rights festivals/screenings or mobile events in their countries. Thus, creating new stations in the Arab World network, including Morocco, Tunisia, Palestine (Ramallah, Gaza, and Jericho), Lebanon (Beirut, and the governorates), Egypt, Sudan, Syria, and Mauritania.

Also as part of the AHRFN’s strategy, Karama established several connections and partnerships in Beirut and Cairo in preparation to launch human rights film festivals in Lebanon and Egypt through partnerships with local partners and relevant actors.
