The 7th edition of Karama, which will take place from 7-10 Decemeber, 2016, is the fruit of the experience gained through 6 previous years, reaching 48000 spectators at all the activities, and achieving 292 screenings in Amman, and 56 screening within the outreach program. 35 films will be screened under the theme of 'Are you a human being?'
The idea behind selecting “Are you a human being?”, as this year’s theme is an attempt to imitate the surrealistic situation of the human rights in the Arab region and in the world.
Selecting this theme is a delicate choice, it might suggest a very artistic and experimental approach, but in fact, it tackles a core tragedy that humans are witnessing in the world. The theme invites us to contemplate the surreal, the chaotic status quo of human rights, where murders are normalized, where the killings of dozens are regarded as usual and ordinary news. It also invites us to question if we genuinely deserve to be humans.
In this light, it will be tackling normalizing violations against human beings, normalizing death, refugees’ status quo, occupation, crimes, and the role of media as a tool that packages and enhances such violations.
